Cafeteria: Montebello School has an excellent cafeteria, and students are encouraged to participate in our program. Monthly menus are sent home with students. Breakfast is served from 7:25-7:55 a.m., Monday through Friday, in the cafeteria. Lunch schedules, recess times, and recess locations vary for each grade level. Milk is served with all school meals. Soy milk may be substituted for students who are unable to drink milk, providing the child’s parent submits a note to the cafeteria manager requesting this change. Students are expected to follow the Alhambra A’s code of conduct that developed in accordance with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) while in the cafeteria or in line, as well as the following specific guidelines:
  • Show respect for others by speaking in quiet voices during meals and using proper table manners.
  • Please sit where the adults on duty assign you to sit and stay there until you are dismissed. If you need to get up from your seat for any reason, please raise your hand and wait to be given permission.
  • Sharing or giving away food is not permitted.
  • Food, utensils, or napkins are not to be thrown.
  • Pick up your own trash and the area around you before leaving.
No outside food (i.e., McDonald’s, Taco Bell, etc.) is allowed in the cafeteria. Sack lunches are permitted. Soda or other carbonated drinks are not allowed with either school meals or sack lunches.

Meal Account

A student or parent/guardian can place money on a student meal account to pay for lunches. A meal is deducted from the account each time a lunch is purchased. Students may also pay cash for lunch. Money should be deposited in the student’s account in the morning before school.

Milk is included with lunch. Students who bring their lunch may purchase milk. Soy milk may be substituted for students who are unable to drink milk, providing the child’s parent provides a physician’s note or the parent writes a note stating the student is lactose intolerant, and submits the note to the cafeteria manager requesting this change.

Students use their school identification numbers as their lunch numbers. They receive a copy of their number during the first week of school. In order to help the lunch process move quickly throughout the day, please practice the number with your child at home.

  1. A meal account is required for all students, including free and reduced lunches, unless the student is paying cash for the day.
  2. Meal charges are not permitted. Students must have money in their account, lunch money for the day or qualify for free lunch.
  3. Meal account deposits can be made to the accu-scan system by either the parent/guardian or student during the scheduled breakfast time. Students are encouraged to make deposits in their accounts prior to lunch time to save time in line.
  4. Meal account reminders are given to students by the cafeteria clerk when only two meals remain on the meal card. If your child receives one of these notices, please deposit money into their account as soon as possible so that they do not have to receive a sack lunch.
  5. Meals (alternative) will be given to students who do not have lunch money or meal account. This will only be allowed for up to three occasions during the school year.
  6. A meal account may only be used by the student who is assigned to the individual account.
